thecitysecret has an opening for an experienced Developer to join a well-established Software Engineering team working with a Tier One Investment bank. This is a great opportunity to be involved in large projects for an International client whilst having the benefit of working for a small company. This role is based at our Richmond (North Yorkshire) office and only very occasional visits to the client's site are required.

The successful candidate will work on a product lifecycle management control and auditing application which deals with the workflow of a complex trading product.

This is a great learning opportunity within the financial sector due to the exposure to a range of financial products.

Location: Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 7BP (Close to the County Durham border)

Commutable from: Northallerton, Thirsk, Darlington, Barnard Castle, Durham, Middlesbrough, Newton Aycliffe, the Yorkshire Dales, Teesside, Co. Durham.

Start Date: As soon as possible

  • - Working alongside a development team to design and implement software solutions in Scala, Java and occasional C#.
  • - Working directly with the trading desk
  • - Deploying solutions in a highly-distributed Linux plant
  • - Providing level 3 support


The successful applicant will be working on distributed systems on Linux and windows and must be able to demonstrate excellent skills in the following key areas: -

  • - Java (experience of Scala and/or C# would be beneficial)
  • - SQL/Database knowledge (DB2, Sybase would be beneficial)
  • - Unix/Linux
  • - Problem Solving
  • - Eager to learn
  • - Self sufficient
  • - Excellent communication skills

Previous experience within the finance industry would be beneficial, but not essential.

The ideal applicant must be able to work in a fast-changing environment and have the ability to respond to changing priorities.
